Scope and Content

Letter to Fitzgerald & Lee from Lisle R. Beardslee Transcription: Lisle R. Beardslee 1775 Broadway New York, N. Y. December 8, 1939. Dear Fitz: Thanks very much for your letter of November 30th. I appreciate the candid comments you make. I agree with you that the motor of the Say-So should be overhauled and put in first class condition. I would like to ask you (or, if you prefer, you can wait until we meet at the Motor Boat Show) just how cooperative Walter was in accepting your kind offer to allow him to do some of the work on the Polly B. I am sure the Polly B must look like a million dollars. In view of the fact that the cost of the repairs reached quite a substantial figure, I am inclined to think that we will get along with the minimum amount of work on the engine for next year. You might be figuring up just what is necessary, and give me an idea of the cost. This we can also discuss at the Motor Boat Show, unless there is some special reason why you want to get at it now. With best wishes for a Merry Christmas, Sincerely, L R Beardslee LRB:IMS. Mr. J. B. Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald & Lee, Inc., Alexandria Bay, N.Y.

Context

The Fitzgerald & Lee collection was discovered in 2014, in the attic space of what used to be the Fitzgerald & Lee business offices. The collection was donated to the Alexandria Township Historical Society. Fitzgerald & Lee were prominent boat builders of the area from 1920-1942, building custom boats and selling Gar Wood boats. The museum holds several Fitzgerald & Lee built boats in its permanent collection.
