Mr. J. B. Fitzgerald,
Fitzgerald & Lee, Inc.,
Alexandria Bay, N.Y.
My dear Fitz:
I have your letter regarding Fred Barker, and will, of course, be glad to do anything I can.
Do I know him personally? For the minute, I can't recall him. Anyway, I think the best way to handle the matter would be to have him write me a letter, giving me his age and previous experience, and indicating the kind of a job he thinks he can best fill. I assume, of course, that he is an American citizen, and that he is one you can recommend as to character and integrity in every way.
If this is true, have him write me such a letter and I will forward it to the Manager of the Allison Division. This Division is engaged excusively in making airplanes and the people employed there have to be checked most carefully.
With kind regards,
Very truly yours,
L R Beardslee

The Fitzgerald & Lee collection was discovered in 2014, in the attic space of what used to be the Fitzgerald & Lee business offices. The collection was donated to the Alexandria Township Historical Society. Fitzgerald & Lee were prominent boat builders of the area from 1920-1942, building custom boats and selling Gar Wood boats. The museum holds several Fitzgerald & Lee built boats in its permanent collection.Collection
