Mr. J. B. Fitzgerald,
Fitzgerald & Lee, Inc.,
Alexandria Bay, N. Y.
Dear Fitz:
Thanks for yours of the 23rd explaining the situation about numbering the boats. I think we'll save the expense of taking all the varnish off and I will therefore ask you to do the best job you can in the matter of changing the numbers. It certainly is an outrage that we are required to do this but this isn't the worst thing that has come out of Washington.
In regard to Walter's boat, I am perfectly willing to have you do whatever is necessary. Walter has always told me that he could do the work on this boat, including overhauling the engine, etc. and I believe we should let him do everything that he can. I did think there were a few things that you would have to take care of but I was hoping it would not amount to very much in actual cost. Just what do you think is necessary that Walter can't do and approximately what would it cost?
I am looking forward with pleasure to seeing you again as soon as the weather permits.
With best wishes,
Sincerely yours,
L R Beardslee

The Fitzgerald & Lee collection was discovered in 2014, in the attic space of what used to be the Fitzgerald & Lee business offices. The collection was donated to the Alexandria Township Historical Society. Fitzgerald & Lee were prominent boat builders of the area from 1920-1942, building custom boats and selling Gar Wood boats. The museum holds several Fitzgerald & Lee built boats in its permanent collection.Collection
