Scope and Content

Letter to Fitzgerald & Lee from Lisle R. Beardslee Transcription: Lisle R. Beardslee 1775 Broadway New York, N. Y. January 25, 1940 Dear Fitz, Your recent letter crossed mine. You gave me the cost of five new pistons. What I wanted was an estimate from you of the total expense you think would be necessary on the Polly engine. I don't imagine the price you named for the five pistons includes their installation. You may go ahead on the engine for the Say-So, doing what seems necessary in your best judgement, and you may as well go ahead on the Polly engine also, if you wish, because we have to do what is necessary, and I don't anticipate it will be in excess of a total cost of $75 or $80. I sincerely hope that Mrs. Fitzgerald is feeling better by this time. With all good wishes, Sincerely, L R Beardslee Mr. J. B. Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald & Lee, Alexandria Bay, N. Y.

Context

The Fitzgerald & Lee collection was discovered in 2014, in the attic space of what used to be the Fitzgerald & Lee business offices. The collection was donated to the Alexandria Township Historical Society. Fitzgerald & Lee were prominent boat builders of the area from 1920-1942, building custom boats and selling Gar Wood boats. The museum holds several Fitzgerald & Lee built boats in its permanent collection.
