Scope and Content

Letter to Fitzgerald & Lee, Inc. from Francis J. O'Brien Transcription: [Letterhead: Francis J. O'Brien. 1016 Lake Avenue, Rochester, New York] January 22, 1940 Mr. J.B. Fitzgerald Alexandria Bay, N.Y. Dear Friend, For two reasons I am writing to you and neither one of them is another boat. First I wonder would you write me just to tell me about Mrs. Fitzgerald, as I think she must be seriously sick when you stayed away from the boat show. Next I wonder if you could and would secure a job for Donal on the boats for next summer. You have influence and knowledge that we haven't. As you know we have tried and been turned down by nearly every line while Art and Don Munn and others are solicited to do it. I like them both but when they are working for me they have to quit to drive page 2 boats. My son as you know is a very skillful and careful driver but has no influence and hates to ask. I could perhaps get him a job here but his board lodging and carfare would eat up what he earned and we would not have his company. You said you could sell my Gar Wood boat at any time but unless I'm finished I do not want to sell it. If you did could I have the spotlight put on the fishing boat? I hope to keep the fishing boat even if I sell the cottage as may happen some day. Donal will be going to college for some years yet. Trusting that Mrs. Fitzgerald is not in a serious condition and that you are perfectly well, I remain Sincerely Francis J. O'Brien Best regards to Alvin
