Mr. President
Fitzgerald & Lee
Dear Friend,
I am in Toronto and have had a hard drive and am too tired to think. Upon my return I find your letter and contract. Thank you. My first impulse is to reject it as too high. With my boat and motor the price would be about $1000 and though it is worth it I think I should wait until you make one of the cheaper stock boats, as I know you can. Somebody is maybe in a greater hurry than I am. I can wait a year or longer if I save some money, but should I?
Also the contract says nothing about the live fish box you promised me. How about it?
I am interested to see the pictures and I will reconsider it when you send them.
Thanking you very much
Sincerely,
Francis J. O'Brien

Next day
P.S.
I think you're right, a contract between you and me is unnecessary. It looks silly formal spelling and all which is as a student of English I might pick to pieces. Also why the hurry? except for the $300 for the cash engine, I do not want the boat before June, if then. I'm glad you cheapened it by leaving out the linoleum, but why not two coats of paint? In that way will the stock boat be cheapened?
Unless and until I can get an addition to my boathouse this boat would have to stand in the open so an automatic bailer would be essential.
Of course I haven't seen my boat and motor since Fall but they were O.K. then. You'd want the long oars and all equipment on it, even the homemade canvas cover might help.
[crossed out--Could you better the price at all for a quick sale? I have to borrow some of the money]
Yours as ever
