Dear Mr. Fitzgerald:
Just two years ago, this summer, I was fortunate enough to experienced a very pleasant and thrilling ride in one of your little sixteen-foot Gar Wood runabouts. Up tp that time, I don't think I had ever done anything more pleasant, thanks to you. From that day on my one desire was to have a Gar Wood. This coming summer (1936) Grandfather is going to get one. He decided the sixteen footer was a little small for our purposes so he expressed his desire for an eighteen foot job. He has been carrying on quite a lot of correspondence with you and so far as I know he has ordered the eighteen footer with separate cockpits and to be powered by a Gray "Phantom Six." You are to receive our present boat and knock of $400 on the price of the new boat.

You may want to ask me some particulars about it and those I will be very glad to answer. Lindsay took the boat out of the water last fall and he has the battery, shaft and nearly everything except the life preservers, fire extinguisher, anchor and line, all of which is in the top floor of our boat-house. The oars are up there too. I don't think anything will be missing unless I have it tucked away some place. If this is the case, I will be up to the "River" on the11th of June and we can go over the equipment. Last fall, Lindsay overhauled the engine and put in a complete set of Perfect Circle piston rings.
Grandfather just sent me a letter and put the taboo on racing the Gar Wood, but how fast do you think she'll go, about 38 or 40? If you can give me a little advice on how to run the new boat I would appreciate it.
As you have noticed, I am in Conn now. However, I realize that this is the time of year when you are putting boats in the water and you are very busy so I won't trouble yourself to answer this unless you feel like it because I can wait until I get up there.
Best wishes to you,
Bill Post KeriganCollection
