MISS AMERICA IX GIVEN HER FIRST TEST - EXCEEDS 90 MILES PER HOUR ON DETROIT RIVER
Detroit, Mich. Gar Wood, America's speed boat champion, today for the first time, set the hull of Miss America IX in the water of the Detroit River and "gave her the gun". Although Wood would not give the exact speed made by Miss America he said it was slightly better than 90 m.p.h. The photo shows Wood and Orlin Johnson, mechanic, at the height of the run.
