4 foot model (aprrox. 1/6 scale) of decked St. Lawrence River sailing skiff. Probably "88" class. Rig is missing. Donor is great-grandson of Xavier Colon.
An article in the Ogdensburg Advance dated August 31, 1893 (available through NNYLF) indicates that there was a real decked St. Lawrence skiff named Sunrise. The full size Sunrise was built and owned by E. Colon (typo? for Xavier Colon, or referencing the Exaviar as he was also sometimes refered to in the press). For the meet described, Sunrise was sailed by Thos. Purcell. The original Sunrise was 25 feet loa and carried 400 square feet of canvas.Collection
