L2025.3Description
Nameplate for the ice yacht "North Star". Built by George Buckhout, North Star measured 36’ in length and carried 440 sq. ft. of sail. North Star was owned by George Ruppert, of the Ruppert Brewery family. Many families who raced ice yachts in the winter raced sailboats during the summer. For example, Ruppert owned two cat boats, Dash and Dare. He often raced his cat-rigged boat Dash in club races during the 1908-10 seasons while Dare was sailed by his brother-in-law Adolph Schwartz. North Star and Dare are now part of the New York State Museum’s collection.Acquisition
