Story shared by Greg Kranz: A group of museum supporters were out for a dinner and sunset cruise on the Narra Matta. I believe Riggs Smith was piloting. The cruise took us over into the Canadian side for the sunset and night time cruising. On the way back the generator failed, the battery died, and the engine stalled. By candle light we switched to a second battery. The engine restarted. We crossed the main channel with the navigation lights fading. As we approached the yacht house the battery gave out and the engine died. Dead silence as we realized we were coming into the slip, hard and dead stick. Several of the younger men scrambled to the gunnel and grabbed the ropes. As the bow entered the first person jumped to the dock then the second, third,… In the dark, the bow line was hooked on the first dock cleat which immediately tore out, the midship line engaged a cleat which also yielded. The stern line was hooked to the last useful cleat, and those still holding ropes pulled from the dock. This cleat held and the boat bounced off the bumpers and dock roughly.Acquisition
