Description

Miss Canada III was one of the fastest race boats of her time. She is still considered one of Doug Van Patten's finest racing hulls that could handle high-speed turns superbly. When either her original Miller engine or the supercharger on her Rolls Royce engine was performing properly, she was hard to beat. Canadian Harold Wilson commissioned American Doug Van Patten to design Miss Canada III in 1938. Her first two races were near the end of the 1939 season finishing second in the Silver Cup Race in Detroit and winning the President's Cup in Washington on the Potomac River. Her outstanding racing debut took place just as Canada was about to enter World War II against Germany. As a result of Canada's entry into the War, Miss Canada III, at the moment of her great performances, would be forced into retirement for the next five years. She remained in storage for the duration of the War. Miss Canada III is a superb racing hull that was the fastest in her field. She set the Gold Cup speed record of 119 MPH in 1945 and was capable of much greater speed.
