Description

Mullins 15' steel sea eagle runabout, Steel Away. With original Lycoming UA58 HP engine. Hull #11057. W.H. Mullin's founded Mullins Manufacturing Corporation in Salem, Ohio in 1895 when they pressed their first steel rowboat, and went on to also make pressed steel auto bodies in 1902. Mullins built small hand-powered rowboats, utilities, racing craft, and deluxe outboard runabouts and offered the largest variety of metal boats than any other manufacturer in the 30s. They hired boat designer Julias T. Herbst in 1930 who designed the Deluxe Sea Eagle runabout, originally powered by a 45 HP Lycoming. This boat has the original 5 flotation tanks that make it unsinkable. The hull number is 11057 and the boat has a Lycoming inboard engine claimed to be original with all numbers match the manufacturer's plate in the engine compartment, although originals were outfitted with 45 HP models not 58 HP. Engine was completely rebuilt in the spring of 2014. Paint on the boat is new but in the original scheme and colors. Interior leather has been replaced to match the original style using the original seat padding.
