"Ming Toy" is an example of Chris Craft's response to the tightening economy of the early 1930s. With this model they succeeded in squeezing the desirable 8-seat triple cockpit arrangement into a 20' boat. "Ming Toy" herself was the boat exhibited at the New York Boat Show on January 2nd, 1931 to advertise this new model. Nearly 300 of these boats were built between 1930 and 31. The model 200 Standard Runabout was rated for 31 mph and sold for $1895.
The construction of "Ming Toy" is typical of Chris Craft runabouts, frame and batten mahogany with two layers of planking on the bottom, sandwiching a layer of treated canvas. Her power plant is a 6-cylinder Chrysler Crown KM, 3 1/8" by 4 1/8", producing 75 Hp.
Records indicate Ming Toy was delivered in very original restored condition, and was refinished in 1998 by Cedric Maycock, who donated his time for the project. John Withers paid for other expenses. The name was designed, laid in 23k gold and painted by Chuck Costantino. "Ming Toy" has not been run by ABM, but attended several boat shows as a running boat prior to her donation. She remains in beautiful shape. EVS 08Collection
