Description

Hull number 3031 is a model 15 Sedan which had a shipping date 3/16/29 and was shipped by rail car to California. Hull 3031 was one of 41 sedan models which stated on the hull card as a Van Mourik limousine top, and shipped with a show cradle. Most likely this boat was used for display at the 1929 San Francisco Boat Show and had Chris-Craft in large gold leaf gracing its transom for advertising purposes. Topper came with green interior and a more stylish grayish white Chris-Craft A-70 engine. The engine was also dressed up a bit with nickel plated acorn nut for head bolts. Restoration on this hull began in December 2006 by Mike Green at Maritime Classics with the removal of hardware and all interior pieces. All new frames, chines, keel, and stringers. A new stem was installed and all transom framing replaced. The bottom planking was replaced using the 5200 method and all new fasteners. The side frames were then replaced leaving only 9 original side frames in the boat. The boat was stained red mahogany first, then black walnut over the red on the king planks and covering boards. Varnish was hand applied and sanded between each coat and then hand rubbed with pumice and rotten stone to achieve the matte factory finish appearance.
