Mrs. Lewis
1936
Construction was begun on this boat by lifelong boatbuilder Burret Wiswell of Clayton, NY in 1928. It was to be a family launch for the Wiswells, and construction was done as other projects allowed, spanning several years. In 1932 Bert Wiswell died, and work was continued by his son Hiram, who completed the boat in 1936. It was named Norma-Jean in honor of Burret's two daughters. The craft is a 'Skiff-Putt,' an enlarged St. Lawrence Skiff with a small gas motor, in this case a marine-converted flathead Ford. The boat is multi-purpose, with seats for cruising, canvas to keep out the weather and provide cover for fowling, and also hardware in the stern to hold fishing rods for trolling. It was donated to ABM in 1965 by Mrs. J.P. Lewis, and restored in 1989 by Cedric Maycock.
