Description

2005.019 Boat Type: St. Lawrence Skiff Builder: Unknown Model: Unknown Length: 20' Beam: 48" Date Built: Unknown This is a large double-oared St. Lawrence Skiff for two person rowing. It is a well-made boat, typical St. Lawrence Skiff construction. Seven planks per side, lapstrake cedar over oak, all clinch-nailed. The decks are red cedar with mahogany deck caps. The hull is painted white, with a brightwork sheerplank and accent rail; the interior is green. Inside are two seats and a seat at either end, two sets of oars, and two removable seat-backs. The boat is in very good shape, all joints appear tight and the finish in good condition. EVS 08 The boat was originally given to the Mrs. Gosnell's aunt, Mrs. Kate Louise Hale Trahey as a gift for her 15th birthday in 1915 and has always been kept at the Family's boathouse on Lake Ontario. Due to their fine build, good upkeep and status as treasured heirlooms, it is not uncommon for families to keep skiffs and pass them down for generations. jmp 2011
