George H. Miller (1861-1952) was a well-known builder of St. Lawrence Skiffs in the Thousand Islands, particularly noted for building winning sailing skiffs for local racing. He was also a successful racer of sailing skiffs. His boats are characterized by very smooth planking and finely-designed hulls. This is an advanced racing skiff, long and narrow, with hollowed sides near the bow and stern for a fine entry and exit.
This sailing skiff has two mast holes for accommodating different rigs, and one set of St. Lawrence rowlocks for rowing the boat from the middle seat. The construction is typical for a St. Lawrence Skiff, white cedar over oak, riveted at the ribs and plank-laps clinch-nailed. The 36 ½" long 3-piece decks are constructed of butternut, screwed down to the deck-beams with holes plugged. The boat is in very good condition, with one or two professional plank repairs and a recent coat of varnish. EVS 08
