Description

1973.017 Boat Type: Open Motor Launch Builder: William Hand Model: Unknown Length: 14'6" Beam: 53" Date Built: c1900 This is a small motor launch originally powered by a one or two-cylinder inboard engine. It has for and aft lifting rings running through the decks to the keel, identifying the boat as almost certainly a yacht tender for a large steam yacht. The boat is carvel planked riveted over bent oak ribs, with mahogany seats, decks, and coamings. Its one open cockpit is divided by a middle seat with seat-backs, and it has bench seats along the sides of the cockpit in the front and a single bench seat in back. The middle seat has two drawers under it, opening backwards. There are two helms, one on the port side in the middle, and one in the front just under the coaming. The inboard engine is missing, but would have been a very small two-cycle motor. This boat is relatively complete, though the varnish on the decks is almost gone and the paint on the hull is also deteriorated. There is almost certainly rot in the planking and keel. Several small pieces of the floor beams are detached and in a bin inside the boat. EVS 08
