Description

Inboard Lyman on ground Engine info from Everett Smith 1994. 1972.024 Boat Type: Runabout Model: Builder: Lyman Boat Works Year Built: 1932 Length: 17' Beam 6'2" In 1932 Lyman was way ahead of other builders of the Depression era, offering a practical runabout style that could serve many boating purposes. As well as its moderate price, the boat was practical, easy to operate and had strong appeal for the whole family. Major builders like Gar Wood, Chris-Craft and Hackercraft were still building fancy runabouts as their sales plummeted and orders were cancelled month after month. Lyman's sales dropped as well, but their models were plain and practical allowing the company to maintain a reasonable level of production in spite of the Depression. This boat is an excellent example of the type of boat able to survive the hard times brought on by the Great Depression. It was framed in white oak and planked with Philippine mahogany. It has a folding windshield and the seats were upholstered with imitation Spanish leather. There was a full-width bench seat forward of the engine box. The list price in 1932 was $1,200 complete with dock lines and anchor. She was originally powered with a Gray Phantom 6 80 HP engine. Her current power plant is a Chris Craft B 60 HP.
