Description

By 1939 Hutchinson's 26 foot Sport Utility had developed a popular following among boaters in the region who wanted a rugged boat that could serve many purposes. It was a superb design for serious fishing parties, for touring, for carrying cargo to island homes and for transporting guests in comfort. The design had evolved gradually from the early launch styles to stylish craft that was influenced by the designs from the major national boat builders. Hutchinson still preferred using lapstrake construction in 1939 resulting in a hull design that was exceptionally strong, soft riding and extremely seaworthy. Although this model was considered a standardized Hutchinson design, each boat was custom tailored to the owners' special needs for the use it was intended to fill. Live bait wells, circulating fresh water tanks for fish, cabinets, lockers, an ice box, chart holders, anchor horns and winches are just a few of the features that would distinguish one 26-foot model from another. Engine info from Everett Smith 1994.
