Description

The Flower window originally adorned the home of Anson Ranney Flower, the brother of Roswell P. Flower, former Governor of New York. The Flower family commissioned several stained glass windows for the Roswell P. Flower Memorial Library in Watertown from Charles Lamb, the renowned glass artist. Though not securely documented, it seems likely that this window too is by Lamb, as it was commissioned for the Flower mansion in Watertown in the early 1900s. In the early 1920s, when the Flower Mansion changed hands, the window was removed and donated to Grindstone Methodist Church on Grindstone Island where it remained for approximately 75 years. During remodeling in the early 2000s, members of the Cox family, who summer on Grindstone, acquired the window and had it fully restored by Frances Tait of Alexandria Bay. The window on display here is the center panel of the original three panel design. Donors: Ted and Carol Drum Height: 7' 5" Width: 4' 8" Acc. Number: 2003.003
