Brett Douglas Hunter - "Dumpty Humpty"Entry/Object ID
2026.0.2Description
“Dumpty Humpty” is a mixed-media sculpture that blends recognizable features with imaginative figurative abstraction. Its four-sided shape presents a whimsical combination of smiling and frowning faces, suggesting shifting emotions and perspectives. This object fits into Hunter’s recent exploration of everyday emotional themes, such as joy, grief, irony, and social commentary, expressed through simple, yet bold forms. Constructed from lightweight EPS foam, coated with layers of synthetic stucco and reinforced with fiberglass mesh, then sealed to withstand outdoor conditions, the loan will be displayed
here for a two-year period.
Within the context of APSU Permanent Collection, which includes works by significant folk artists like E. T. Wickham and William Edmondson, this sculpture represents both a Tennessee artist and a contemporary interpretation of folk-art traditions.
