"An Apology to Winter"
An Apology To Winter Beth Martinelli
For years I have written of your miseries, Without Heart the callous wind, the clouds' impertinence. You without heart, usurper of color. Callous wind I find you wholly blank, unresponsive. Mornings I will your world to stop. The trees dusted with the frailness of February. Bones in the air, on the ground, across the page. The sky spins; the fragrant moon swims in midnight's sea. In my weakness I forget what it is to be ice and shadow with you. A garden of snow. Ice and shadow on a lake. Inside boots, women's feet like moonlight. The dark and my father's stars, treacherous solemn and disparate. Falling is treacherous, rising unfathomable. I grow into the new coldness. RisingType of Print
