Square built-up newel post. Has iron bolt for attachment of lower rails. Elaborate carved leaf motifs on all four sides. Pointed top with curved sides converging to point. Has applied moldings near top and bottom. Has panels with fluting, repeating button-shaped infill ornaments and notch for upper rail. Evidently a landing newel. Made of oak, with remnants of original finish. Secondary wood of cedar.
