Description

Interior wood, elaborate window valance. Originally designed to fit bay window. Composed of three separate (now detached) sections. Central section is topped with complex moldings and botanical motif carvings, below which is arched panel. Rosettes and additional carved ornamentation. Panel is faced with burled veneer and incised and gilt botanical motif decoration. At each end of central panel is a block ornamented with incised and gilt carving and fluting. Classical revival style iconic capitals and turned bulbous drops. The other two components of valance are matched with symmetrically proportioned extensions. Each has complex moldings and frieze panel with incised and gilt fluting and botanical motifs. One end of each of the two extensions has matching classical revival capital and turned bulbous drops. Each has burled veneer. Made of dark hardwood. Finish: Varnished.
