Cast iron capital. Originally installed on Abington Building fifth floor.
Hollow block with sloping top, below which is molded cove.
Applied ornament bolted on front with shield-shaped central cartouche. Elaborate acanthus leaf motif ornamentation. Small piece missing at bottom.
Cartouche and acanthus flanked on each side by volutes. Each side of capital has repeating acanthus and volute ornaments bolted on. Reverse originally had two eyelets for anchorage to masonry. One eyelet is missing, other eyelet has wrought iron loop.
Originally there were eight capitals of this type and size. This is one of two extant.
Front and sides painted with multiple layers of paint, original finish appears to be sand texturized to simulate beige sandstone.
