Lottery savings-bond fraction (centésima), Plan de Bonos del Instituto Nacional de Ahorro y Viviendas, Sorteo No. 90, Havana, 17 December 1960, vignette of a house at Los Arabos, MatanzasEntry/Object ID
2025.11.77Description
A horizontal paper rectangle printed in brick red over a pale green security underprint with the institute's name in large pale lettering. The back is printed in black on the same green ground.
Front. At left is a picture of a single new house, seen at an angle from the street: a low building with a broad flat roof and deep eave, a lattice or screen-block wall to the right of the entrance, a louvered window at left, a paved walk and driveway leading in, and small plantings at the corner. Stylized clouds and birds fill the sky. A panel beneath reads CASA EN LOS ARABOS / PROV. DE MATANZAS. The picture is signed at lower right J. BIBILONI.
⚠️ This is the first ticket in the group to show a single house rather than a row or a development. The one at Wajay showed a row, the Reparto Textil a street of them, Havana del Este apartment blocks. This one shows one family's house in close view.
Top center: VALOR NOMINAL 22¢, PRECIO AL PUBLICO 25¢, then REPUBLICA DE CUBA and INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE AHORRO Y VIVIENDAS. The bond number 19758 sits over a ground of fine scrollwork, with UNO NUEVE SIETE CINCO OCHO beneath. Lower center: OCHENTA Y DOS and SORTEO Nº 90 / DICIEMBRE 17, 1960. The right-hand panels hold 82ᴬ, then an emblem shaped like a scalloped or cloud-edged shield, then OCHENTA Y DOS, then a stippled panel.
⚠️ Two hand marks. A green 7 is written in the panel beside the emblem, and a smaller dark stroke sits just left of REPUBLICA DE CUBA. ⚠️ A 7 in a hand mark now appears on two tickets, in green here and in black on the Mella ticket.
Back. The usual layout: refund table and centésima statement at left; draw size, prize list, house-prize clause and DIRECTOR GENERAL signature at right; SORTEO No. 90 / 17 DE DICIEMBRE DE 1960 in the vertical panel. The number 19758 is punched through as a perforated cancellation.Context
The draws were weekly, on Saturdays. With six tickets I could test this, and the arithmetic is exact:
Draw Date Day
77 17 Sept 1960 Saturday
86 19 Nov 1960 Saturday
90 17 Dec 1960 Saturday
94 14 Jan 1961 Saturday
137 11 Nov 1961 Saturday
460 20 Jan 1968 Saturday
Every gap works out to exactly seven days per draw number, across every interval, including the 323 draws and 2,261 days between the 1961 and 1968 tickets. One draw a week, every week, with no break in more than seven years.
Two things follow, both by arithmetic rather than by source:
⚠️ Sorteo No. 1 would fall on Saturday 4 April 1959, seventy-six weeks before Sorteo 77. The INAV was founded on 18 February 1959, so a first draw about six weeks later fits. This is extrapolation, not evidence. A ticket from a low draw number, or the Cuban press for April 1959, would confirm or kill it.
⚠️ The last draw, recorded as Saturday 16 March 1968, would have been Sorteo No. 468, eight weeks after Sorteo 460. That means the 1968 ticket is from the eighth-to-last draw the INAV ever held.
On Los Arabos. Los Arabos is a municipality in the eastern part of Matanzas province, bordering Villa Clara; it was established in 1876 and had roughly 23,000–25,000 people in 2022. ⚠️ I found no source on INAV building at Los Arabos. The ticket is the evidence. ⚠️ It is also the first of the six to picture INAV work outside Havana province — Wajay, Guanabacoa and Havana del Este are all in Havana. The institute's published record dwells on Havana; this ticket shows it building in a small rural municipality in sugar country, which is worth knowing.Acquisition
