Description

Soviet 1-ruble coin. One face shows the USSR state emblem (hammer and sickle over globe with sun, wheat-ear wreath, star) above the legend "СССР" and the denomination "ОДИН РУБЛЬ" (one ruble), encircled by an outer inscription (partly legible, "…ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ…"). The other face is heavily corroded and effaced, with no legible design remaining.

Context

Soviet currency. Soviet coins circulated in and reached Cuba during the period of close USSR–Cuba alliance (1960s–1980s). The object is Soviet-made; its relevance to the Cuba Material collection depends on documented import to or acquisition in Cuba. Its presence likely reflects Soviet–Cuban ties, but that link must be established from provenance.
