Description

Decorative wall panel worked in straw marquetry (straw inlay/appliqué). On a dark maroon-brown textile-covered board, a vertical bouquet of three open roses with stems and serrated foliage is rendered in pieces of split, flattened, golden-toned straw; the natural sheen and directional grain of the straw create highlight and modeling, and the leaves carry darker incised veining. The composition is framed by a printed gold double-line border. The reverse is a toned paperboard backing bearing a printed paper label, "MADE IN USSR / ART. СГЗ-66 «А»," with remnants of a hanging fitting (fibrous loop and adhesive residue) near the upper center.
