Cherk Yee has had a passion for Chinese Brush Painting for over fifty years, since his early adulthood. You might find him sitting in at a table in the dining room, a plastic bin of painting materials on the floor by his side and an "Honorary Award of Artistic Recognition" hanging on the wall above him with his paintings. And if you're lucky he'll paint you one of his favorite things: an illustration of Chinese shrimp, which capturers the crustacean's essence.
He does at least 7-8 drawings a day and has given away hundreds to friends and visitors. Cherk has his own unique personal brush technique and frequently paints postcards for his family and friends. Of his art, he says "What I like, I paint" and he does so totally from his head.
A quiet man who says he "speaks" best with his brush and ink, this native of Hong Kong worked for years in the City of San Francisco's Department of Transportation. He is the grandfather of two boys.
