Name/Title
Ruth Janger - Loving - Reutlinger CommunityDescription
Ruth was born in Newalla, Oklahoma and lived there for several years before moving to Healton and then finally Oklahoma City where she remained most of her life. She grew up on a farm and helped milk the cows and "did all the things a country girl would do."
Ruth married at 17 and spent 63 years with a wonderful man who supported her in whatever she wanted to do. "We were both young when we married," she says, "and we laughed a lot." Together Ruth and her husband raised four children.
Ruth was an organizer and always had an active social life. "Back in Okla-homa it was always 'Ask Ruth'". She was the first woman president of her synagogue and served as president of the Jewish Women's League. She fondly remembers directing a production of Fiddler on the Roof at her synagogue in which she played the ghost of the grandma and her cantor played Tevye. Ruth also managed to find time for painting while raising her family.
Ruth enjoys working with color and often loses herself when she's painting. She's sometimes surprised by her work and asks herself, "Did I really paint that?"
While reflecting on her life, Ruth says, "I didn't try for greatness. I just tried to be a good woman."
