“Highway 101”
I’ve been painting and talking since I was three! As the first grand-daughter and a 2nd generation American, I grew up in a large and creative Polish family who encouraged me as they restored a 100 year old house themselves. I watched my Mom paint, sew, sculpt, crochet and bake; my father studied journalism/writing (suddenly interrupted), transmitted messages for Western Union, became a tool and die maker and used his hands for creative projects at home.” Highway 101” began as an inspiration from the work of another artist. It was a challenge because I have never painted a seascape! Looking at photographs gave me more information and introduced me to the idea of adding color into the cliffs. I began noticing the variety of warm and cool colors in the earth tones. I am also experimenting with atmospheric perspective. I was drawn to this scene by a memory of stopping with my parents on the Highway near the Hearst Castle.
