Viamonte - Sharon Shutes - As Seen From Satellite 4207Description
Sharon was born on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She moved to California, then to Hawaii where she met her husband and they raised their children. After her husband passed away in 2011, she returned to California and has lived at Viamonte since February 2023. When she looks back at her life, “I see chapters that opened, and chapters that closed.”
This is her first art class. Gloria, who is also in the class, encouraged her to come. “I came a couple times, and thought, what can I do? I remembered I used to do doodles and started doing doodles. It just took me out of my mind. It was my hand as much as my brain that was leading me to what came out on paper. I’ve really enjoyed it” She shares, “I put colors together that satisfy me. They tend to be bright colors. I don’t think I could live in Hawaii all those years and not have love of colors. I’m a very big experimenter.”
Sharon thinks the class is a great way to meet people. “Everybody is creating like crazy. It’s a shared experience.” She likes the sense of camaraderie. “Each of us seems surprised by what we can create on some level. There’s a great sense of pride.” Sharon has learned “I can be creative and it’s very satisfying.” Creating art “Makes me feel good. Makes me feel happy. Makes me feel frustrated. Makes me feel like I need to explore it a little bit more.” Words of wisdom Sharon shared: “We only come this way once. You better try everything once. There are opportunities everywhere you look so you better take a shot.”
