Born in Myanmar, Nellie moved to Taiwan at the age of 27, had two daughters, then later moved to Mississauga, Canada where she currently resides. When Nellie was young, her father owned a shoe store where they designed and made shoes. She picked up some design abilities from watching her father at the shop. She developed interest for arts and crafts, particularly in architecture and interior design. Although she did not pursue art as a career, she still was able to use her creativity in crafting, sewing, and home decorating. When her daughters were young, they would watch Bob Ross every Sunday and paint together.
Nellie joined Art With Elders during the pandemic. It has helped her reconnect with her artistic interests. Under the guidance of Mei Mei, Nellie not only gained more confidence in her painting skills, but also in the ability to communicate her thoughts among her peers. She now also teaches her 9-year-old granddaughter whenever she visits.
