REUT - Sumer Aggarwal - Trees on the Lakeside in MorningDescription
I was born in my grandparents’ village of Bilaspur, India, one of five children. My father was an elementary school teacher who was transferred every 2–3 years, so we all moved village to village that were 10–20 miles apart. My high school was in the District Headquarters of Ambala City, followed by college studies and Engineering College in Agra; I then became a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology. In 1970, my wife and 3 children and I moved to the USA. I progressed from Lecturer to Professor during 15 years at Penn State. Then, I was a Dean and Professor at University of MA.
Painting is an interesting engagement! I am beginning to find my own way of working now: I choose a beautiful photo of the earth and focus on painting the large shapes and overall design, sometimes adding my own details.
This lake was below the Siwalak Hills. Far off in the distance were the Himalayas, Him (snow), alayas (house). The mountains filled up with snow and fed all the rivers and lakes. Our Lake was 2 -300 yards across with little islands. These streams in the forest provided drinking water for animals and vegetation only. The humans dug wells in the village for drinking water which were 50-100 feet deep. They dug through soil layers until they tapped streams of water under the surface where there were the sandy layers.
