““Fragrance” is based on a bouquet of flowers given to me by a friend who gardened-one of his favorite flowers; when he saw the painting, he titled it! I was inspired by Manet to develop the dark background which provides a contrast that shows the whiteness of the flowers. I experimented with the large shapes in this background using the dropping flowers and referencing a table.”
