Gaylee Rubin - Fall LeavesDescription
Gaylee is new to painting but not to the arts. She earned an MFA in creative writing at the University of Michigan and has been writing short stories since she was in her 20’s. She has two daughters, one granddaughter , and cat and a dog. Gaylee explains, “ “Fall Leaves” began as my experiment with crayon resist and watercolor. I did rubbings of beautiful fall leaves with wax/oil crayon and painted over them with watercolor. I used tissue paper and rice paper (for their thin translucent qualities), and I glued the linear rubbings onto a painted background of poured watercolor. I wanted the painting to look like a pile of fall leaves and it did! However, the pile of dark leaves looked unstructured; so,I did some rubbings in white crayon on transparent paper and glued them on top of the pile of leaves. Those delicate rubbings seem to organize the composition and I liked the result!” Gaylee Rubin “Fall Leaves” 2020 9”x12” Wax/Oil Crayon/Watercolor on Paper
