Name/Title
Belmont Albany - Kathryn Allison - Over the Rainbow Lollipop TreeDescription
Kathryn Allison was born in St. Louis during World War II. When she was young, her family moved every couple of years so that she went to three fifth grades (including one in Tokyo) and three high schools. During all that time, she drew and painted constantly, trying to decide if she wanted to be an artist or a horseback rider. Ultimately, art won as she explored Japanese brush painting, calligraphy, book binding, textile arts, illustration, landscape and interior design, as well as drawing and painting.
At Stanford, Kathryn pursued art and art history, traveling and studying in Europe, returning to Stanford and marrying Don. A passion for them both was art museums and art history. Kathryn taught art and art history for 42 years at a K-12 independent school in Los Angeles, enjoying seeing many of her students become professionals in the art world.
Art with Elders has been an important part of Kathryn's transition to senior living in the Bay Area. The warm and informal focus has allowed the rebuilding of some lost skills and the focus on new work. Kathryn has three children and seven grandchildren, whom she adores. Probably the deepest part of Kathryn's inspiration continues to be the natural world which is endlessly fascinating.
