The Sequoias - Mary Boyer - Double Wedding in the Rose Garden

Name/Title

The Sequoias - Mary Boyer - Double Wedding in the Rose Garden

Description

It's not hard to spot Mary Boyer in the halls of the Sequoias. This small-statured 92-year old will be "regally dressed," as she puts it, wearing lots of color and maybe a scarf to match, perhaps designed by herself. A fashion designer for forty years, beautiful dress is definitely one of her arts. Fabric has been Mary's passion her entire life. Though much of her career in fashion design was at a Japanese Department store in Los Angeles, it hasn't always been that way. Mary, who speaks Japanese, Chinese, and English, was born in rural Japan, and has done everything from working as a nanny to opening her own small-scale clothing store in Tokyo. She was married for 46 years, has one daughter and a stepson. Mary came to the U.S. in 1956, and have lived in New York City and Ft. Lauderdale, working hard wherever she went. As she says, "I worked and worked. Everything I do, I give 120%," and always with a deep appreciation of her employees. It was in her retirement, at the age of 65, that she says she discovered herself. And she advises: "Even though you think you can't do it, if you want to, try it."
