Clarence Crew loves creating and teaching art! He taught art and mentored students at Livermore High School for 45 years, adults at Mt. Diablo Adult Education for 20 years, as well as offering art in Extension High School classes to troubled teens. At the same time, as a skilled and imaginative professional artist, he was sought after for his painting, sculpture and drawing, completing many satisfying commissions. In addition to this double career, he was an athlete and played All-American in baseball and basketball at St. Mary’s College. While he taught High School, he also coached the teams and was elected to the coaching Hall of Fame for the Tri-Valley. Clarence explains, “Sometimes I look at photographs and begin with a clear idea. I also love beginning(as in ‘Bird on Ocean’) abstractly and allow it to develop into some type of figure, plant, object, animal or place- anything in the world -from Don Quixote and windmills to clipper ships on distant seas, to elephants, lions, and magical sprouting plants!
