Viamonte - Gloria Cabral - Rough WaterDescription
Gloria grew up in San Leandro, CA and has been at Viamonte since 2019 and joined the art class 9 months ago. This is her first art class, “I never held a brush in my hand until last year…creating art feels like something new to explore inside of you that you didn’t know was there.” Gloria already knew some of the other people in class and has also made new friends. She finds it interesting to see everyone painting something different.
Gloria has painted a lot of food, such as fruit and vegetable still lifes, learning “it shows all the years of passion for food really is a big part of me. I am a foodie through and through.” She takes pictures of food “all the time” and works in the garden at Viamonte.
Gloria works mostly in watercolor. She likes to see how water flows on the paper. Her “Rough Water” piece is different than anything she has done, and she worked in acrylics for the first time. Gloria shares that Megan, their instructor, encourages them to overstep their boundaries.
“As you age, anytime you learn something new, like different forms of art, it’s really important. It keeps you from being stagnant.” She finds something childlike in painting - “As we get older, we need to be more childlike, have fun and let loose.” Words of wisdom Gloria shared: “Just let yourself go. Whatever feels natural just do it.”
