This painting is inspired by Henri Rousseau’s captivating folk art style. I wanted to make a painting of my family filled with love and conceived this as a garden. Enjoying the garden are myself and my husband as teenagers, my children, grandchildren, sisters and great grandchildren, as well as a few family pets. Rousseau’s tree with green heart leaves spoke to me and my garden to be. The heart shaped leaves on my tree, in red and orange, symbolize our love and lives together. The palm tree represents our life in California. The bare branched tree represents winters in Montreal; seed pods on this tree predict future generations to come.”
