Name/Title
Yong Li Hao - Winter View - Oak Center TowersDescription
Life was hard in northeast China, where Mr. Hao was born in 1934. In his youth, he says, "I loved to draw and paint" but there was little money for living, let alone art supplies. But money wasn't an issue with some of his other passions. He liked playing the saxophone in the school symphony and hunting small animals like wild chickens, ducks and rabbits.
A trained mechanical engineer, Mr. Hao worked for 35 years in China. It was in college and on the job that he learned to draw buildings, which, he feels, gave him a good foundation for the art that he does today. Now he loves to draw landscapes, nature scenes, animals, and people.
Mr. Hao, who has 3 children, came with his wife to the U.S. in 2003. Doing art is what makes him happiest--observing something in nature, taking a picture, and then returning home to draw it. And he appreciates the opportunity that his AWE class has given him to talk about his art with other people. And, of course, there is the ready access to the art supplies he never had in his native country.
