Helen was born in Cleveland, Ohio. April 1946, and was a military kid that did a lot of traveling. She has 2 sons and 3 grandkids. She worked as a bookkeeper and as an Assistant Apartment Manager. Helen took early retirement at age 62 from bookkeeping. Helen started taking the Art with Elders class in 2020 during the pandemic with instructor Hugh Leeman. The classes, at the time, were on Zoom. After Hugh, she worked with Virginia Jourdan, taking classes in person.
She wishes more residents were participating in the classes at Crescent Park. She believes being part of a group encourages others and pushes people to achieve higher goals. Helen enjoys using colored pencils as it is relaxing and gives her a lot of joy. She likes learning all different aspects of art and is learning paints, including watercolors, with Virginia. She’d like to try ceramics again as she did some when living in Texas years ago. Helen has a niece who is a senior in high school and even though she is busy at school, can still draw and paint. Both artists inspire each
other and even own each other’s art. Her words of wisdom: “Just be true to yourself and live life to its fullest.”
