Name/Title
CLC - Roger Underhill - Northern LightsDescription
When asked by a young boy how he became so successful, Roger replied, “I just did what I love to do. Do what you love.” Roger always loved drawing. Before he learned to read, he was copying cartoons from the newspaper and drawing on the blackboard at school during recess.
Later as a student at SUNY College of Ceramics, he realized that art was not his true career path and switched his major to economics. After college, Roger spent time in the Navy, graduating from the Naval Officers School. While in the Navy he developed a love of sailing and is still active in his sailing club. Next came “the volleyball business.” Roger helped form the City’s volleyball league and the YMCA League as well.
The art classes Roger took as an adult gave him the opportunity to move beyond cartoons. He finds his AWE painting class relaxing and sees it as a way to recharge. He enjoys the interaction with other artists.
Roger is an entrepreneur, a maverick, a “surfing junkie” and an environmental activist. He would like the visitors who see his work “to get busy helping to save the planet before it’s too late. You can make a difference.”
