Name/Title
Rita O. Goldman - Grazing in the Early Evening - Reutlinger Community for Jewish LivingDescription
Rita was born in Germany in 1931. When she was eight, her parents, worried about her safety, sent her to England as part of Kindertransport, which brought thousands of Jewish refugee children to Great Britain. After eight years living with her London family, she reunited with her mother and father in 1947 in San Francisco, where her British "parents" visited her to confirm that she felt safe.
It was a difficult time. Her parents, who had emigrated with nothing, were unable to obtain work for a while. But Rita graduated from high school and got her first job as a file clerk for an insurance company. She and her husband had three daughters.
Rita's first experience in art was with her young children, using paint–by-number kits to help keep her sanity. Since then, she's progressed in her one and half years in AWE classes, where she began with watercolor. Following the suggestion of her art teacher, she now works in oils and always begins her work with a drawing.
She attributes her longevity to “good genes.” She is the head of an ever-expanding clan, which includes eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, with another four on the way.
