James Harris, more affectionately known as Jimmy James in the Laguna Honda art room, is a wellspring of knowledge about anything related to Motown. This comes as no real surprise since he lived for many years just down the road from Motown records founder Barry Geordie’s house, known to many as the Motown mansion. He would often see the likes of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin going in and out of the house and about their business around town.
Unsurprisingly, Jimmy James loves to paint his musical heroes and often accompanies his painting process by sharing with the class amazing facts and fascinating stories about his colorful subjects. He’ll also often sing along with some of his favorite songs without missing a beat, note or lyric.
