Born and raised in San Francisco, Philipe worked for his father’s Auto Parts business, driving ~1,000 miles per week delivering tires in the Bay Area. This native son has passions for comedy, cars, and art.
When Phil was 14, he was inspired by a sand exhibit in the Exploratorium and created a “Drawing Machine” by suspending his mother’s chalkboard horizontally from his home’s rafters with a hinge holding color pens. His invention was popular with his friends, who nicknamed him “Phlash!” His invention also inspired his instructor Mark Campbell to create a table-sized machine nicknamed “Novaline”.
Phil appreciates the Art with Elders program because it “stimulates your mind into being creative” and allows one “to improve oneself”.
