Description
Manuel Fernandez was born in Cuba and moved to Spain in 1969, where he spent three years in industrial school learning technical drawing and training as a machinist. In 1971, he moved to San Francisco, where he worked mainly in an office and also as a machinist on mail machines.
Manuel loves nature and likes to see the sunset. He enjoys traveling and has frequently visited Miami to see his father. He has also spent time in New York and Los Angeles, and used to enjoy riding his motorcycle around California and seeing the scenery.
He has been participating in the Art With Elders class for three years. He says, “I like to stay busy.” He works from photos of natural scenery and focuses on developing color and contrast. His background in mechanical drawing is evident in his sense of composition
Through the class, he has made friends and enjoys seeing the work other people make. He says, “I am very grateful to the On Lok community. They are very nice people.”
His words of wisdom are: “Eat right, exercise, be creative.”
